Windows 11 Update Reveals 4 Must-Know Features, Including AI-Powered Copilot+ Tools

New Features in the Windows 11 Optional Update
Windows 11 is rolling out a new optional update that brings with it a range of exciting features, many of which are powered by artificial intelligence. This update, known as patch KB5062660 for Windows 11 24H2, is currently in preview and should be approached with caution due to potential bugs. However, it promises a significant enhancement to the user experience, especially for those using Copilot+ PCs equipped with powerful NPUs.
Key Features in the Update
AI Agent in Settings
One of the most notable additions is an AI agent within the Settings app, available exclusively for Copilot+ PCs. This AI agent acts as an intelligent assistant, allowing users to search for settings using natural language queries. Instead of relying on traditional search methods, users can simply ask questions about what they want to accomplish in Windows 11, and the agent will provide the relevant settings. Additionally, it can offer suggestions for changes based on the user's needs. This feature is initially available only on Arm-based Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon CPUs and in English, but support for AMD and Intel chips is expected soon.
Click to Do Benefits
Microsoft has expanded its Click to Do feature, which provides context-sensitive AI-powered options for Copilot+ PCs. New shortcuts have been added for selected text or images, including the ability to launch Reading Coach, an app designed to help improve reading skills. Immersive Reader is now also part of Click to Do, offering a distraction-free environment for text. Furthermore, Draft with Copilot allows users to transform sentences into detailed drafts using AI, particularly beneficial for Microsoft 365 Copilot subscribers.
Quick Recovery from Boot Failure
A new feature called Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) is now available for all PCs, not just Copilot+ devices. QMR enables users to recover from boot failures by accessing the Windows Recovery Environment. It allows diagnostic data to be sent to Microsoft, potentially leading to a solution for the problem. While this automated troubleshooting tool is a positive development, it’s hoped that users won’t need to use it frequently.
Image-Related AI Powers
Several new AI-powered features for images are now available on Copilot+ PCs. These include Relight in the Photos app, which lets users add virtual light sources to alter image lighting, and object selection in the Paint app, which uses AI to select objects automatically. The Snipping Tool also gets a feature called "perfect screenshot," which simplifies the process of capturing and cropping screen areas.
Additional Updates and Fixes
The update also includes the deployment of Recall in Europe, an AI-enhanced search feature that uses screen grabs. Users can now export screenshots (called snapshots) to trusted third-party apps and websites. A reset button is also available to delete all Recall data and restore the feature to its original settings.
Another notable change is the replacement of the Blue Screen of Death with a more streamlined black screen when Windows 11 encounters a critical error. Additionally, the Gamepad layout in the virtual keyboard now offers enhanced controller navigation, including word suggestions and improved menu handling. A fix for a stability issue caused by the May 2025 update has also been included, addressing a rare but problematic bug.
This update marks a significant step forward in integrating AI into the Windows 11 experience, offering users a range of new tools and features to enhance productivity and usability. As the full August update approaches, these features are expected to be refined and fully deployed, providing a more polished and reliable experience for all users.
