Beaumont Leaders Join Global Accounting Firm Post-Merger

Expansion of Doeren Mayhew through Strategic Acquisition
A Houston-based public accounting firm, founded by a Beaumont native, has taken a significant step forward by merging with a Michigan-based financial advisory group that has extensive experience in the international market. This strategic move marks a pivotal moment for both organizations as they aim to enhance their services and expand their reach.
Doeren Mayhew Assurance and Advisors LLC completed the acquisition of Reimer McGuinness Hess Certified Public Accountants and Advisors on July 1. The merger brings together two firms with complementary strengths and shared values, creating a more robust platform for delivering high-quality accounting and advisory services.
Strong Ties to Beaumont and Houston
The connection between Reimer McGuinness and the Beaumont and Houston areas is seen as a key asset in the growth strategy of Doeren Mayhew. Co-founder Randy Reimer and partner Max Dunlap bring deep roots in the region, which will help the merged firm better serve local clients and build stronger community ties.
Chris Masters, Managing Principal of Doeren Mayhew, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition. “We’re extremely excited to expand our team with this acquisition,” he said. “Like Doeren Mayhew, Reimer McGuinness Hess is known for delivering quality services with a tailored approach, and their complementary services will make for a seamless transition. We’re also looking forward to growing our Houston team with a group of very talented accounting professionals and industry leaders.”
A Personal Journey and New Opportunities
Randy Reimer, who founded Reimer McGuinness 19 years ago in Houston, reflects on how far he has come since his early days at Forest Park High School. As a former Sam Houston State University baseball player, he never imagined that accounting could be a viable career path. Today, he sees the merger as an opportunity to give back to the community that shaped him.
“We’re only in week three and we’re already talking about helping our clients with things that we couldn’t do,” Reimer said. He was born and raised in the Golden Triangle, where his mother worked as an educator in the Beaumont ISD. Reimer hopes that the expanded resources of the merged firm will allow more local businesses and individuals in Southeast Texas to benefit from advanced accounting services.
“We want everyone to come over,” he added. “We want you to pick up the entire firm and put it into these additional resources. Those are the things that make the big difference.”
Expanding Talent and Opportunities
Max Dunlap, another key figure in the merger, is a Beaumont native and graduate of Lamar University. He will now serve as a Principal Accountant within Doeren Mayhew. Dunlap views the merger as an opportunity to focus more on core CPA work rather than managing multiple roles, which was necessary in smaller firms.
He emphasized the importance of talent recruitment and continued engagement with Lamar University, where he studied. “Lamar has a great business school, and the students that come through there have been hungry and wanting to learn, in my experience,” he said.
Dunlap also highlighted the potential for new internships and opportunities within the firm. These include tax and audit interns, marketing internships, investment management internships, and cyber security internships. He hopes to attract the next generation of managers and CPAs from Lamar University, further strengthening the firm’s pipeline of skilled professionals.
Growth Strategy and Future Goals
According to a spokesperson from Doeren Mayhew, the firm’s growth strategy focuses on entering new markets and expanding in regions they have previously worked in. This includes acquisitions in West Michigan and other strategic locations like Frierson, Solá, Simonton & Kutac in Houston.
The merger with Reimer McGuinness Hess represents a major step in this strategy, combining the strengths of both firms to create a more comprehensive and capable organization. With a strong foundation in the Houston area and a broader reach into international markets, Doeren Mayhew is well-positioned for continued success and expansion.
